Helping Other People Project
Each time we state the Scout Oath we pledge to "help other people at all times." This project is intended to support that pledge by creating a program that allows Scouts to build a fund for charitable organizations and service projects in our community and nationally.
Money to fund this account is raised by having our Troop families collect aluminum cans and other recyclable aluminum items. An account has been established in the Troops name at the City of St. Peters Recycle City. Anyone can drop off cans at Recycle City and ask that the funds be credited to the Boy Scout Troop 72 Helping Other People Project account or collected and turned into the Troop Quartermaster for delivery.
Recycle City — 131 Ecology Drive, St. Peters, MO 63376 (636-477-6600 x 1463)
Monday to Friday 8am to 4:30pm, Sat. 8am to 2pm
When the project has raised a $100, the PLC has the responsibility to determine the organization or project which receive the funds and arrange for delivery. The Senior Patrol Leader presents the PLC’s choice to the Troop Committee for final approval prior to disbursement of the funds.
Below is a list of donations made to-date since September 2010:
- $100 — Heartland Humane Society of Missouri is a 501(c)3 non-profit group of dedicated foster homes that gives abandoned, abused, and unwanted animals another chance for loving, permanent homes through their adoption program, following the no-kill philosophy. They reduce pet overpopulation in the community through collaboration with veterinarians, animal welfare organizations, and supportive individuals and organizations by providing affordable spay/neuter procedures and humane education. Heartland Humane Society of Missouri is funded by adoption fees, donations, fundraising events, grants and tributes.
- $100 — FISH has provided help to the needy of St. Charles and St. Charles County since 1969. This all-volunteer Christian organization provides basic human requirements like food and clothing to people in need. FISH works with local churches and agencies to determine resident needs and to generate referrals. Donations -- including car donations -- are glady accepted.
- $100 — American Red Cross Disaster/ Tornado Relief Fund — Following damage from severe storms that swept through Missouri and Illinois, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter continues to provide shelter, food, clothing, damage assessment and casework for families who have been displaced from their homes due to the storms. Trained damage assessment teams are currently canvassing the St. Louis community meeting with families to assess needs, provide clean-up supplies and food.
- $100 — Sts. Joachim & Ann Care Service — Their pantry program provides a weekly distribution to low-income families and individuals who do not have the means for adequate food or toiletries. In some cases, the distribution from the pantry is the only food in the home. On a weekly basis they provide canned and dry goods, bakery and dairy products, produce, meat, and nutritional supplements. They provide paper and personal hygiene products on a monthly basis as available.
- $100 to the Youth in Need Organization — This organization supports under privileged children and families like the scouts in our troop. Also there are many Youth In Need buildings in and around St. Charles. This organization has full time and part time staff that helps thousands of individuals that face serious problems.
